LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! MOVIEMAKING CAMP FOR TEENS
July 27 - July 31, 2009 (10am - 3pm)
Location: Houston Community College - Northwest Campus (Town & Country)

Cost: $250
(Space is limited. Registration only guaranteed with payment.)

Lunch not provided. Students must bring lunch daily.

Lights! Camera! Action! Moviemaking Camp is a week-long course designed to teach teenagers (ages 13-17) how to use a camera to tell a story. Each student will get hands-on instruction in digital camera operation, lighting, sound and editing while
working as a team in the production of a short film.

Production of Short Film with Acting Camp

Lights! Camera! Action! On-Camera Acting Camp is a week-long course designed to teach teenagers (ages 13-17) the tools and techniques of performing for the camera through professional training and group exercises. In addition, the students will be given the opportunity to act in a short film produced by the moviemaking camp.

Day One
Intro to Fundamentals of Film Acting (esp. Distinguish between theatre vs. film)

Mock Castings for Practice with implementing these basics (with script from TV or Film)

  1. Individual Casting (chance for every student to be on camera by themselves)
  2. Scene Work with a partner

Script Memorization

Day Two
Vocal Warm-Ups (Focus on concentration/relaxation to combat nerves before auditions-emphasize warm-up as important tool in actor’s toolbox)

Practice Acting of all sides

Audition for Camp Film

Day Three & Four
Production of Short Film with Moviemaking Camp

Day Five
Watch Acting for Camera “How-to” Movie (ex. Michael Caine’s Acting for the Camera)

Talk about different “types”/current TV or Film roles that each student thinks he/she could play with their unique personality/skills
