The Media Literacy Institute offers training workshops and seminars incorporating analysis, aesthetics, and production elements of media arts and media literacy education.

Review Media Literacy and Basic Analysis Skills
Hands-on Camera and Production Workshop

Day Two
Lesson Plans and Curriculum Resources for Teaching About Media in the Classroom
Implementing Media Literacy in the Classroom (team exercises)

The 2-day Institute will offer standards-based curriculum resources, and field-tested techniques for infusing media analysis across the curriculum. Teachers will learn about key concepts and strategies for teaching about media in the classroom. Participants will have an opportunity to directly apply their learning to curricular materials especially applicable in Language Arts, Social Studies (including history, government and civics), and the Fine Arts. They will come away with relevant curricular materials and approaches that can be immediately applied in their classrooms.

Instructor Deborah Leveranz is nationally recognized as a leader in the field of media literacy. She has produced numerous award-winning television programs for children, as well as hundreds of videos with students across Texas. She has been the keynote speaker for the National Media Literacy Conference and worked with the TEA’s QUEST program to revise the Texas educational standards to include media literacy, developing the initial standards that were implemented in 1998.
