Welcome to the Houston Women's Grip and Electric Workshop!
Join us for this hands-on lighting workshop sponsored by Nanlite and taught by local industry professionals.
This is a beginner-friendly, practical workshop open to all women wanting to gain experience in lighting.
Even if it isn't your goal to become a Grip or Set Electrician, aspiring photographers, DPs, and other department workers who want to understand this side of the set are welcome.
We will cover stands, dollys, frames, lighting theory, and on-set safety during this five-hour workshop.
You will walk out knowing how to light basic scenes and understand how the same concepts scale up on larger projects with bigger equipment.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
We will have coffee, but please come having eaten in the morning.
Lunch will be provided, and the last hour of the event is reserved for networking.
This is a great chance to meet other industry locals in the community.
You do not have to be a Houston local to attend, but this is an in-person event taking place in Houston.
Organizer:
Jaclyn "Jax" Peralez-Fleming
Jaclyn “Jax” Peralez-Fleming is a Houston-based Grip and Set Electrician who is passionate about making film lighting knowledge accessible to underrepresented groups. After eight years cutting her chops in Austin, where she graduated from the University of Texas Radio-Television-Film program, she decided to move back to her hometown of Houston in 2022. She organized the first Houston Women’s Grip & Electric Workshop earlier this year, and plans to use future workshops to build community through education in technical film roles.
