The River Oaks Theatre has been a mecca for cinema lovers in Houston for over 80 years. The best arthouse, independent, and foreign films ever made have been shown on the screens of this iconic Houston landmark. Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Richard Linklater calls the theatre “a church of the arts.” Thousands of independent filmmakers have premiered their movies for the Houston community at the River Oaks Theatre, and it’s long been a favorite as a neighborhood gem.

The theatre is once again facing an uncertain future with the merger of the property owner Weingarten Realty with Kimco Realty Corp. A group called the Friends of the River Oaks Theatre has come together to save it. Your tax deductible donation will help them protect this special place, and the money raised will be used to preserve the historical integrity of the theatre building itself.

Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) is the fiscal sponsor of Friends of River Oaks Theatre and is providing administrative support to the group during this formation phase. This support includes processing tax deductible donations for Friends of River Oaks and providing tax receipts. SWAMP is proud to be a partner in the efforts to save the theatre and thanks you for your support.
