Have an idea for a short film but aren't sure how to turn it into a screenplay? This four-week hands-on workshop takes writers from the first spark of an idea to a completed narrative short film script.
Led by filmmaker, screenwriter, and educator Randee Ramsey, the workshop focuses on what makes short-form storytelling different: creating compelling characters quickly, establishing stakes, building conflict, writing visually, and crafting an ending that resonates without trying to squeeze a feature film into fifteen pages.
Participants will write throughout the four weeks, with table reads every week so they can hear their work out loud and discover what is and isn't working on the page. Each writer will receive constructive feedback from the instructor and fellow participants, then use those notes to revise and strengthen their screenplay.
The workshop emphasizes writing through rewriting. We'll look at character, structure, dialogue, visual storytelling, pacing, theme, and how to create a short film that connects emotionally with an audience.
Our goal is for every participant will leave with a completed, revised narrative short screenplay ready to take into the next stage of development or production.
All experience levels welcome. Come with an idea, a rough draft, or simply the desire to write a short film.
Refund & Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received at least 14 days before the first class are eligible for a refund, less a $25 administrative fee. Cancellations received 7–13 days before the first class are eligible for a 50% refund or a credit toward a future SWAMP class. Registrations are nonrefundable within 7 days of the start of class and after the course has begun. No refunds or prorated credits are available for missed sessions. In cases of illness or emergency, SWAMP may offer a future class credit at its discretion.
